Every Presentation Is A Sales Presentation
You might be a little skeptical about the headline for this article, after all what have your monthly production figures got to do with selling? Perhaps you give CPD (continuous professional development) presentations in the construction trade which are emphatically not meant as sales presentations. Maybe you are trying to get funding for your latest innovation.
No matter what kind of presentation you are giving you are selling. You are selling the most valuable thing you have to offer every time you stand up and present to another person or group of people. You are selling your credibility.
I don’t care what the subject or context is, when you stand in front of your peers or a group of strangers then whatever you do during that presentation is a sales pitch for your credibility.
In the case of CPD presentations then you are selling yourself as an expert in your field and, if you do it well, building a rapport with the audience that will be the foundation of a lasting and profitable relationship. If you are trying to get funding then being highly credible is vital. And if those monthly figures look bad you can still use the opportunity to make yourself look good. You can turn a bad situation into a chance to shine.
How you conduct yourself in that presentation and the way that you present yourself are vitally important. If you stand there looking nervous, babble through your words and forget what you were saying then, whether it is fair or not, you will be judged on your ability to perform as a whole.
What is worse is that the message you really want to put across won’t be heard as all the focus will be on your performance. So it is vital that you understand that the most important thing to sell to your audience is your authority and competence.
If you do this well then your audience will never consciously notice it. You authority will be taken for granted and the message that you want the audience to pay attention to will be easier to deliver.
Learn to present confidently, speak clearly and deliver your message effectively and you will sell yourself every time!
